ParaSport® Ontario Remembers Joe Ross


JOSEPH GARRY ROSS Joe, a quadriplegic for 40 years, passed away peacefully September 13, 2009 in Halifax, N.S. where he resided for the past 18 years. Joe was well known in wheelchair sports, competing in Athletics, Billiards, and table Tennis. He was an instrumental figure in getting the sport of Wheelchair Rugby going in the province and throughout Canada. Upon his retirement from sports he became the first Executive Director for Sport For Disabled – Ontario, what is now ParaSport Ontario. Joe had a great sense of humour and wonderful enthusiasm he was instrumental in the rapid growth of sports for athletes with a disability in Ontario. He also raised thousands of dollars for people with a physical disability. Joe was so loved and will be sadly missed by family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held in Halifax on November 3, 2009. Donations may be made to the Canadian Paraplegic Association.
