Sarnia, ON — The Opening Ceremonies for the Sarnia 2011 Ontario ParaSport Summer Games will kick off tomorrow morning at 11:00am at St. Patrick’s High School/Sarnia Central Athletic T&F Complex. The two day event will take place Friday Aug 19th – Sat Aug 20th.
Admission to all events, including the Opening Ceremonies are free. Sarnia’s TV Cogeco (channel 6) will be airing the Opening Ceremonies on Friday, August 19th at 4 pm, 7 pm, and 10 pm. They will also re air the ceremonies on Saturday, August 20th at 10 am, 4 pm, 7 pm, and 10 pm.
Over 200 participants from across Ontario are participating, including over 100 athletes with a physical disability, support staff, coaches and officials. The six competitive sports include Athletics, Boccia, Goalball, Lawn Bowling, ParaEquestrian and Wheelchair Tennis. These events are being held at a variety of local venues, including the St. Patrick’s High School, Sarnia Athletics Southwest Track & Field Complex, Sarnia Lawn Bowling Club, Fiddick’s Stables, and Sarnia Riding Club.
The Ontario ParaSport Games program has been the largest multi-sport competition in the province for athletes with a physical disability. For some athletes, the Games represent the pinnacle of their sporting careers, for others they are a stepping stone to National and International events.
