Robert E. (Bob) Secord spent his life contributing to the development and advancement of people through participation in sport and athletic endeavours. Mr. Secord began his career in municipal recreation before being hired by the Province of Ontario to develop sport and recreation programs in several western Ontario counties. Ultimately, he was appointed Assistant Deputy Minister for Sport and Recreation for Ontario in 1980, a position from which he retired in 1989. In recognition of his achievements, his family decided to initiate the Bob Secord Award of Excellence to be presented at the Ontario Summer and Winter Games, the Ontario Games for the Physically Disabled (now called the Ontario ParaSport Games) and the Ontario Senior Games.
