Dr. Robert W. Jackson is considered the father of paralympic sport in Canada.  With a group of other like minded individuals, Dr. Jackson founded the Canadian Wheelchair Sport Association and acted as the Founding President from 1967 – 1972.  In 1968, Dr. Jackson brought the first Canadian team to the International Paraplegic Games and he spearheaded the organizing of the 1976 Olympiad for the physically disabled in Toronto.  Dr. Jackson is responsible for the inclusion of wheelchair racing (800 m and 1500 m) and blind and amputee skiing in the Paralympics Games.
